Poster 3: Building Leadership Capacity in Front-Line Nursing Council Members

Sunnybrook’s nursing council executive felt ineffective as leaders due to a lack of guidance, value for their roles, and lack of structured support. A new council executive model is being implemented, and evaluations will inform long-term supports.

Claudia Wong, BScN, MPP, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre
Claudia Wong is a registered nurse and has been at Sunnybrook since 2008, working across a variety of areas, including acute care, critical care and the Emergency Department as part of both the Acute Care and Critical Care Nursing Resource Teams. She holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Toronto, certification in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, and Lean Green Belt Certification.

Previously, Claudia worked for a provincial agency specializing in critical care inter-hospital flow, system quality improvement and building relationships with health care organizations across the province. At Sunnybrook, she has worked on improvement projects involving patient flow, patient transitions, quality culture, and patient safety. She is currently the Professional Leader of Nursing and Manager at Sunnybrook, leading work related to the advancement of nursing in the areas of practice, education, research, and leadership.

Lauren Cosolo, RN, BScN, MN, CON(C)
Lauren Cosolo is the Nursing Education Lead at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Lauren graduated with a Master of Nursing from the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto in 2017. Lauren started her nursing career in 2013 at Sunnybrook before moving into oncology as the Advanced Practice Nurse in the Odette Cancer Centre. Lauren is interested in nursing education, advancing nursing practice and delivering high quality patient care.
