Reframing Strategies for Nursing Retention: Sharing Collective Leadership Insights from TAHSN Summit.

Jane Merkley, BScN, MScN, Sinai Health
Jane Merkley is a nurse executive with expertise in leading strategic change initiatives in major Toronto hospitals. She has more than three decades of experience spanning clinical, administrative, executive and professional practice roles with a focus on delivering the highest quality care in acute care, complex, and rehabilitative care settings.
As Sinai Health’s most senior nursing executive and operational lead, Jane oversees an extensive, multi-site portfolio encompassing Clinical Operations, Academic Professional Practice, Patient Safety, Quality and Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Readiness for the Renew Sinai Phase 3A redevelopment and Information Technology. Jane is the recipient of the Award of Merit for Excellence in Nursing Administration from the Lambda Pi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. Jane earned her Bachelor of Nursing at Laurentian University and Master of Science at the University of Toronto. Jane is an Adjunct Professor with the University of Toronto’s Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing.

Dr Jeffs is the Chief Scientific Officer, Science of Care Institute, Research and Innovation Lead at Sinai Health. In this role, she is responsible for establishing a strategic roadmap to advance the Science of Care by evolving scholarship and innovation across Sinai Health. She is a Senior Clinician Scientist with the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute and continues to evolve her research program that advances all dimensions of our Science of Care research and innovation platform. She has extensive leadership experience and an impressive track record in health systems research with a focus on organizational learning and system performance. She has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles and secured over $10 million as principal and co-investigator. She holds an Associate Professor status with Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto. She has received several awards in recognition of her expertise including the Peggy Leatt Knowledge & Impact Award in 2024.
