E4: LIPHA: An Educational Innovation to Foster Clinical Specialization, Professional Socialization and Interprofessional, Values-Based Care in Future Nurses

LIPHA, the Learning Inter-Professionally Healthcare Accelerator, immerses students and new hires in an evidence-based simulation gameworld that harnesses the next generation’s affinity for gaming. Over 3,000 learners have benefited from LIPHA, which enhances clinical specialization, professional socialization, and interprofessional, values-based practice.

Raquel Meyer, PhD, RN, Director, Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation (CLRI) in Long-Term Care at Baycrest

As Director of the Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care at Baycrest, Dr. Raquel Meyer, PhD, RN leads the design, implementation, scaling and evaluation of educational innovations to strengthen the current and future aging care workforce. Raquel completed her doctorate in nursing health services research at the University of Toronto and received a Nursing Early Career Research Award. Dr. Meyer’s scholarly activities focus on educational innovation, health human resources, leadership and care models. Raquel is an enthusiastic proponent for the relevance of innovation and research to clinical practice, education, leadership and policy development.

Dr. Paula Mastrilli, RN, MScN, PhD, Virtual Simulation Consultant

Dr. Paula Mastrilli has extensive experience in nursing education, management, and research. She has coordinated several multidisciplinary health care team projects in creating virtual gaming simulations (VGS). These teams have been recipients of several recognition awards for their work. Dr. Mastrilli is actively engaged in studying the effectiveness of virtual simulation in nursing education. Results of these studies are published in several peer-reviewed journals. Currently, Dr. Mastrilli, delivers workshops with Simulation Canada and consults on innovative projects in health care education and research.
