E1: The experiences of nursing staff and leaders during a model of care change in a community teaching hospital

In this presentation, we discuss the experiences of staff and leaders during a model of care change. Participants will interpret and evaluate organizational change in the context of a dynamic community hospital setting. Participants are invited to evaluate their own approach and develop new perspectives on managing complexity as leaders.

Emma MacGregor, RN, MN, Research Coordinator, Michael Garron Hospital, Toronto

Emma MacGregor is a master’s-prepared nurse specializing in critical qualitative research. Her approach to research is collaborative; she enjoys teaching and building the capacity of others through the research process. As a research coordinator at Michael Garron Hospital, Emma shares the success of this study with her co-presenter and colleagues. For Emma, conducting this study has fostered new insights on the context of research and leadership in the increasingly complex healthcare system. Further to this role, Emma is a doctoral student at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, where she is conducting an arts-informed narrative study on women educators’ wellbeing in higher education.

Rozina Ramrattan, RN, MClSc, Clinical Resource Leader, Michael Garron Hospital, Toronto

Rozina’s healthcare journey began in 2006 as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) after graduating from Centennial College. She furthered her education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) in 2011 and a Critical Care Graduate Certificate in 2012 from George Brown College.
For eight years, Rozina honed her skills as a bedside nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), positively impacting her patients’ lives. In 2020, she transitioned into leadership, undertaking supervisory roles in Cardiology and the Nursing Resource Team. Later, she became a Clinical Educator for the ICU, mentoring healthcare professionals and fostering a supportive learning environment.
Currently, Rozina serves as the Clinical Resource Leader for In-patient Surgery, where she diligently works to drive innovation and excellence in surgical care. Her journey reflects a deep dedication to continuous growth and a genuine passion for elevating healthcare standards, embodying the essence of compassionate and skilled healthcare.
