This presentation will outline the steps the College of Nurses of Ontario took on their journey to modernizing nursing practice standards. An interactive discussion will be included to guide nurse leaders in understanding a modern approach to standards and facilitating integration into practice.
Allyson Nowell, RN, BScN, MSc, Advanced Practice Consultant, College of Nurses of Ontario
Allyson Nowell has held previous roles as a Senior Professional Practice Lead, Advanced Practice Nurse/Clinical Nurse Specialist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Allyson was a Regional Co Lead in Palliative Care with Ontario Health where she led a 3 year initiative supporting Long Term Care Homes in Toronto. Allyson did her Master’s of Nursing at McGill University and has worked as a nurse across Canada as well as in the United Kingdom.
Iva Tirana, MA, BA (Hons.), Strategy Consultant, The College of Nurses of Ontario, Strategy
Iva has been working in nursing regulation for 15 years. She held a previous role as a Policy Analyst at the College of Nurses of Ontario, leading the policy development process for various regulatory initiatives. In her current role as Strategy Consultant, Iva has led the implementation of CNO’s revised Code of Conduct and other initiatives focused on regulatory governance. Iva completed her Master of Arts in Political Science at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (University of Toronto).
