Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) are identified as an integral health human resource to rebuild the nursing workforce. Exploring the experience of IENs in a provincial Supervised Practice Experience Partnership highlights strategies for nurse leaders that support their integration and retention.

Kimberly Lawrence is the Professional Leader for Nursing at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Kimberly’s nursing experience is focused in trauma and intensive care, where she is passionate about person-centred, quality care practices and integrated care models. She holds a Masters of Nursing in Leadership in Healthcare Policy and Education, as well as certificates in Quality & Patient Safety and Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Allyship. Kimberly is providing leadership in health human resources, advancing nursing practice, mentorship, and novice nurse transitions. Most recently, Kimberly has collaborated in the advancement of an Internationally Educated Nurse Career Pathway, including exploring the integration, development, and retention of IENs in the Supervised Practice Experience Partnership program.
Laura Rashleigh, RN, MScN, Interprofessional Practice, Special Projects,
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre
Laura Rashleigh is an experienced professional practice nursing leader, currently working in special projects at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Laura has practiced in a variety of roles including oncology nurse, clinical educator, advanced practice nurse, and most recently as the professional leader of nursing at Sunnybrook. Laura completed her nursing degree in 1998 at McMaster University, and her Master’s of Science in Nursing at York University in 2009.
Laura is currently working on several projects to support health human resources, ranging from model of care evaluations to supporting the Supervised Practice Experience Partnership program.
