2013 Education and Research Awards Recipients

Full-Time Education Award

Leigh-ChapmanLeigh Chapman

Leigh is a second year PhD student at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto. For her dissertation, Leigh plans to explore how nurses’ competence is assessed and maintained in a professional practice environment. Leigh has held roles in nursing research, academia, regulation, and professional practice and is currently a full-time student.

 

Student Nurse Education Award

Kristen-ReidKristen Reid

Kristen is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Mohawk-McMaster University. She is hard-working, ambitious, personable and passionate about her chosen career as a nurse. Kristen has a strong medical knowledge base and the drive to create positive change in the lives of many.

 

Part-time Education Award

Amanda-BurcherAmanda Burcher

In her eleven years of nursing, Amanda has worked in a variety of roles.  She has worked as an RPN in long-term care, an RN in ICU and is presently working as a Clinical Nurse Educator on Surgery.  In her spare time, Amanda is completing her Masters of Science in Nursing with Primary Care Nurse Practitioner certificate.  She has a particular interest in bridging the gap between acute and primary care.

 

Dorothy Wylie Graduate Fellowship Award

ZubeidaRamjiZubeida Ramji

Zubeida has extensive experience in planning, evaluation and organizational development in community, healthcare and settlement services. She was a co-founder of CARE Centre for Internationally Educated Nurses which she currently leads.  Zubeida is a PhD student in Nursing at University of Ottawa; her research interest is integration of internationally educated nurses.

 

Research Award

WinnieSunWinnie Sun

Winnie Sun is currently a doctoral candidate in Nursing at the University of Toronto where she works closely with her PhD supervisor, Dr. Diane Doran on home care patient safety research.  Her doctoral dissertation is examining the relationship between therapeutic self-care and adverse events for home care clients in Ontario.
